hile we found the premise to be interesting and enjoyed many qualities in your story, unfortunately we didn't feel as immersed in the story from reading the sample pages as we would need to be in order to champion the project. Please know this is just one opinion in a subjective industry, and what doesn't work for one agency could be perfect for another.

Q 5/2/24
polite rejection 5/6/24

Her assistant wrote an email that explained she loved the query and the protagonist's voice, but didn't like how the dialogue was all tell and no show. I feel a bit disappointed that this was judged from only the first chapter as that tends to set the stage for the rest of the story, but oh well. I greatly appreciate the personal feedback, knowing how rare it is to receive. Now... onto the next.

Request for full MS from Linessa Wheeler, Literary Intern on behalf of Marisa Corvisiero @ 12 days. This is a Guide w/ photos, and the submission portal allows a max of 2 MB. So I sent my 2 MB version with fewer pix.

I didn't submit to Marisa, though I originally considered it. I ended up submitting to Catherine Ross instead, her tastes seemed to lean more towards my manuscript tone. She was the FIRST agent submission to indicate she had actually read the work, touching on story elements, etc. Yes, ultimately it was a rejection. But, as indicated on here by Author4life, it showed a bit of effort on the part of the agency. Us prospects know that agents have the pick of the litter, but it's nice to see that they remember that there are human beings on the other end of these submissions. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I personally am CRAVING unbiased input at this juncture of my writing career! Even if it's critical, unflattering, whatever. All of us had the guts to take a chance on ourselves, by submitting in the first place. I appreciated the effort they put forth in acknowledging me in some small way.

Q: 5/3
Rejection: 5/12 - But seems like a personal rejection, so I'll take it as a win

While we were captivated by the premise of this story and enjoyed the strong descriptions of the world and characters you've crafted, unfortunately we didn't feel as immersed in the story from reading the sample pages as we would need to be in order to champion the project. Please know this is just one opinion in a subjective industry, and what doesn't work for one agency could be perfect for another.
